China Communications Construction Company to send engineers to study the feasibility of building a bridge linking Chile’s Chiloé Island to the South American nation’s mainland, citing the head of Chile’s foreign investment committee Matías Mori.
The Chinese company may compete in bidding to develop the bridge, which would run 2.6 kilometers (1.6 miles) over the Chacao Channel in southern Chile. Literally paving the way to The New Silk Road
Chile’s president and public works minister visited Chiloé Island to promote the project.
In a visit to the southern Chilean island of Chiloé on Monday, Minister Laurence Golborne announced that bidding on the much-anticipated Chacao Channel Bridge Project would begin. The Chacao bridge will connect the island, currently accessible only by ferry, with the Chilean mainland.
